"Pushing forward their ideals of art & expression, Roots Go Deep’s 2nd release of the year delves even further into their... ethos. This time the roots go deeper with Middelburg-born duo Makhen Gigga.
Known for a string of remixes & originals on Soul People Records & Kanzen Records, the duo (Kenneth Sibanyoni & Wandile Nicholas Nkosi) finally cement themselves as one of the deepest acts in S.A with this wonderful project. Almost a year in the making and broken up into a trilogy. Kirefu Bizuri (meaning deep well in Swahili) is their first solo outing, dedicated to their love & passion for everything deep, black & expressive.
The first part titled “The Ontological Ascent” features two classy moments from Makhen Gigga, and as the title suggests, both structures explore the nature of deep music by offering up a unique & earthy vantage point to the sound, in tune with the Coal City philosophy.
Dark fantasies is a well crafted percussion driven odyssey. Arising afro accents built into a dense array of warm chords and a deep bass line that expertly builds vehemently. A vivid melodic memory so unique yet familiar enough to be called Deep House.
On Serendeepity, the duo bravely explores the furthest reaches of their sound. A hypnotic haze of deep music with a low slung bass line that holds the swirling percussion and the dark atmospheric pads firmly in place as exquisite key work enters, leading the structure into foggier & darker territory.

For the very first time this podcast has a special mix from a very deep
young dj/producer that has caught my attention once again,he goes by the
name Stereomusiq aka Ofuren ..here's a short Q&A I had with him to
accompany the mix..
Nqalastyle: Ma man thanks for droppin' this very deep mix for my
podcast, for those who don't know you who is Ofuren aka Stereomusiq in
short?
Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©: Its a pleasure & thank you for
having me. Well, Stereomuziq Ngwenya aka Ofuren is a young Deep House
producer & poet from Mpumalanga, I also foundered a new underground label
that I'll be launching soon with my partner Sibusiso Ncongwane.
Nqalastyle: That's interesting, any hints on who will be the first artist to
release on the label, and what kinda sound should we expect?
Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©: Our first release will comprise
with productions from myself, Fred Buddah & Soul Arab. You can expect a
rich & dark mixture of pure 'African Deep House'. The sort of sound the
label will be all about.
Nqalastyle: That's nice,I notice you got guys we haven't really heard
of,I'm looking forward to that..why deep house thou when thers many other
genres out there?
Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©: Oh yeah, ROOTS GO DEEP MUSIC is all
about new & underground talent..keepin it deep in every turn and to answer
your question about "why deep house", its simple, to me deep house is
spirituality, an the sonic expression of the human soul through beats,
breaks & bass, that's why I was so drawn to it. I wouldn't even classify it
as music because when I listen to it...it doesn't feel like music..feels
like a journey..a journey through yourself..almost like meditation
Nqalastyle: Yea I feel you man, what's your vision for your new label, who
would u wanna work with,who/what influences you in terms of your
production?
Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©: The vision I've had since day one
is to expose the deep underground scene of South Africa, which is very
underrated. That's why I'm always searching for South African deep house
producers that have real talent and have a real appreciation for this art
and it feels as though its my job to convey their passion to the world. I
wouldn't say I have influences, rather I have inspirations, people who have
inspired me to seek & music, two people infact, Radio Slave & Lars
behrenroth..although I've never met them, theyve both imparted wisdom to
me. Radio Slave really inspired me to be diffrent in my music, I do not
sound like him nor do I want to but his sound really inspires to create my
own individual, cause that's what art is, its individuality. Lars on the
other hand really inspired me to seek the music, to find the diamond on the
dust that evrybody else has missed..
Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©: To seek and make music*
Nqalastyle: Interesting stuff,I can feel your passion for this sound..now
back to the mix,it is definetly not for persons under the age of real deep
underground house..what inspired this mix?
Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©: Lol your show inspired this mix,
I'm really a fan of the other mixes before mine and they really set the
tone for this one although I do like to mix it up abit
Nqalastyle: Thanx man..do you have any favorite djs/producers local and
international,or any artists that we should look out for in 2012?
Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©: My favourite local producers are
D'nel, Drumshift Phenyo, Luka, Soul Arab, Fred Buddah, Ted Jood. My
favourite international producers are Lars Behrenroth, Pulshar, P.Laoss,
Radio Slave and you can look forward to my new EP that will be dropping in
May under FOMP UK
Nqalastyle: Ok thanks again man,how do people contact you for
remixing, bookings or any other related stuff?
Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©: They can contact me on facebook at
www.facebook.com/ofuren or they can email me at ofuren@gmail.com and if
they got a demo they can send it to info.rootsgodeep.gmail.com or upload it
in our drop box at www.soundcloud.com/rootsgodeep
